Virginia Lee (Larson) Sandona, age 81, longtime resident of Cle Elum passed away on May 31, 2011 at the Chesterley Court Memory Care Unit with the additional care of the Yakima Memorial Hospice Services. Virginia was born on May 24, 1930. Virginia graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1948. She went to work as a telephone operator at the local phone company. Virginia married Gene Sandona on May 13, 1955. She spent many years helping Gene with their beer business until retirement in 1991. Virginia was known for her crafting abilities. She loved spending time in her woodworking shop and playing with her sewing machine. She truly enjoyed making gifts for others, such as baby bibs, teepees, Christmas decorations and much, much more. Virginia also enjoyed all her motorhome travels and spending time with her grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Gene in 2009. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dave and Janet Sandona of Cle Elum, her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dr. Lorin Peterson of South Cle Elum, and 2 grandchildren, Erica (Josh) Mitzel of Juneau, Alaska and Lance Corporal Craig Peterson at Camp Pendleton, California. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10th at 1:00 pm at The Church of the Resurrection Episcopal Church in Roslyn with a reception following at the Cle Elum Eagles from 2-4 pm. In Lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to an Upper Kittitas County fire department or a charity of your choice.
