COLUMBIA CITY — Viola M. Houser, 100, of Columbia City, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City. Mrs. Houser was a lifetime resident of Indiana moving to Columbia City in 1977. She was a professional seamstress. She was a member of Columbia City First Church of God and the former Care Circle, president of the Woman's Circle and former Sunday school teacher. She was a leader in child evangelism. Mrs. Houser had attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. She was born on June 25, 1914, in DeKalb County, the daughter of Walter R. and Alta C. (Farner) Hose. Surviving are her children, Richard (Joyce) Houser of Fort Wayne, Ginger (William) Bellam of Columbia City, Rowena Murphy of Columbia City, Nathan (Aleta) Houser of Indianapolis and Kent (Judy) Houser of Columbia City; a daughter-in-law, Kethel Houser of Whitehouse, Ohio; a sister, Grace M. (George) Gillespie of Kendallville; a sister-in-law, Alice Hose of Butler; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank F. Houser; a stepson, Henry B. Houser; four brothers Wilbur, Ralph, Harold, and Herbert Hose; a grandson, Dan Wagner; and two sons-in-law, William Miner and Mike Murphy. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Johnny McCallister officiating. Private burial will be at Butler Cemetery, Butler.
