Viola Florence Hoffman, 93, of Bardstown, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was the former Viola Schuler born on March 11, 1920, in Louisville, to the late Joseph and Clara Mundy Schuler. She grew up in St. Matthews, graduating from Jeffersontown High School and later attended business school. On July 24, 1943, she married George N. Hoffman at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They resided in St. Matthews until 1954 when they moved to Bardstown where they founded Hoffman Distributing Company. She was a loving wife and mother and was very active in many organizations. Being a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was their volunteer choir director for 18 years, and a member of the following clubs, Bardstown Music Club, Old Kentucky Home Ladies Golf Club and Queen's Daughters.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alma Meisner, Lucille Wooldridge, Clara Bell and Joan Erhart.Survivors include her husband, George Hoffman; four daughters, Kathy (Woody) Hahn, of Hodgenville, Carolyn (Chet) Miller, of Littleton, Colo., Mary (Alex) Hamilton, of Louisville, and Virginia (Ginna) Schroeder, of St. Louis; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and her special helper, Rosie Newton and caregivers, Ruby Culver and family.Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will celebrate. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, with prayers at 6 p.m. at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home and additional visitation will be after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, until 10:30 a.m.The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Bethlehem High School. Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
