Vicki UpdykeKICKAPOO - Vicki L. Updyke of Kickapoo, formerly of Brimfield, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 6:42 p.m. Vicki was born on April 16, 1946 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Paul Ziegler and Ella Hopple Ziegler. She married Thomas Updyke on November 6, 1964 in Pekin. Surviving are her husband Tom of Kickapoo; one daughter, Stephanie (John) Baysingar; three sons, Steve (Kelley) Updyke, Shane (Tammie) Updyke, and Sean (Traci) Updyke, all of Brimfield; nine grandchildren, Hannah, Tyler, and Austin Baysingar, Alexandra, Sarah, Lauren, Audrey, Gavin and Hayden Updyke, all of Brimfield; two sisters, Judy (Frank) Bailey of Jacksonville, FL, and Paula (Jerry) Norman of Pekin; and one brother, Don (Doris) Ziegler of Concord, GA. Vicki is preceded in death by her parents. Vicki was raised in Victoria, later moved to Toulon and graduated from Toulon High School in 1964. She was a homemaker for many years, raising her and Tom's four children. She obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing from Illinois Central College, working as an LPN for Proctor Hospital and later the Illinois Eye Center, from which she retired in 1999. She had a love for cooking and worked at Elm Haven in Elmwood, preparing meals for the residents. She also worked for Dr. Dawson assisting him with his chiropractic office in Elmwood. Vicki enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, animals and especially her cats, as she was a former breeder of Persians. Her greatest love in life was her grandchildren and watching them participate in all of their various activities. She was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria.A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 3-5 p.m. at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Princeville. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the funeral home. Veronica Haskell, Funeral Celebrant will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and Vicki's ashes will be buried at a later date.
