Vernon Dale McFarlane1937 - 2014Vernon Dale McFarlane, 77, of Spooner, Wis., died July 28, 2014 at Spooner Health Systems.Vernon was born on July 25, 1937, at home in Spooner. He was the fourth child of Alvah and Cora (Spexet) McFarlane. Vernon graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1955. At the age of 17, he moved to Kenosha, WI and was hired at Ladish Co. Tri-Clover Div. He retired from there in 1995 after 40 years of service. On Sept. 9, 1983 he married Bonnie Wenman. They retired to the Spooner area in 1992. Vernon joined the Masons, Lodge 47 in Kenosha on June 7, 1976 and became a Master Mason 32nd degree on March 28, 1977. Vernon was also a 17 year cancer survivor, thanks to the skill of Dr. James Iwakeri. He and his wife, Bonnie, used those 17 years to the fullest, enjoying the abundance of wildlife surrounding their home, and always working on a project or two. He truly was a jack of all trades, with a heart as big as all outdoors. Vernon is survived by: his wife, Bonnie, of Spooner, three sons; Patrick McFarlane of Imperial Beach, Calif., Jeffrey McFarlane of Silver Lake, Wis., and Shawn McFarlane of Trevor, Wis.; four step-daughters, Sherri Shaver of Mt. Pleasant, Wis., Jeri (Douglas) Cryer of Paso Robles, Calif., Teri (Keith) Wilkenson of Kenosha, Wis., and Kelli (Robert) Logan of Racine, Wis.; one step-son, Kerry Pilligor of Mt. Pleasant, Wis.; four grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, one brother, Donald McFarlane of Spooner, one sister, Marjorie (Steven) McCormick of Kenosha, Wis.;, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded by; his parents, two brothers, Lyle McFarlane, and Gerald McFarlane and a daughter, Laura Jean Smith.A funeral service was held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner, WI with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 1 from 4 until 7 at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial was in the Spooner Cemetery.
