MCARTHURVerl “Max” Verl “Max” McArthur, 94, of Ruskin, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of October 25, 2016, in hospice care in Tampa. Max was born on August 5, 1922, in Delta, OH. He attended Delta High School and went on to work 40+ years for the DeVilbiss Company in Toledo, OH.Max married Elizabeth “Betty” Nugent in 1941. They were together for 67 years until her passing in June 2008. Max and Betty shared a common appetite for travel. They spent summers in Ohio and winters in Florida for over 30 years, always driving to enjoy the scenery. Throughout the years they took many cruises including visits to Alaska, Panama, and the Mediterranean Sea. Many of their travels to Europe and other countries they would be accompanied by family and friends. Max enjoyed the thrill of the drive as much as the visits. He had a knack of turning a 12 hour drive from Ruskin to Kansas City, MO to visit their son into a 3 day adventure through the south. Many of these side trips were to satisfy their love for the casinos. Max always made sure Betty was having fun and was well taken care of. In the years after Betty passed, Max continued his travels but more locally in Florida always in search of that elusive deal. Max was an avid coin collector so many of his journeys could literally be for pennies on the dollar.In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; and his sons, Thomas and James. He is survived by his son, Fred (Georgette) of Waterville; daughter-in-law, Joanne (Thomas) of Maumee; granddaughter, Becky of Toledo; grandsons, Paul (Beth) of Waterville, Jamie of Toledo, Brad (Leslie) of Sylvania, Mike (Abbey) of Waterville; 7 great-granddaughters; and 1 great-grandson.Memorial service details will be made available at a later date to family and friends.
