Valda M. DawsonCOSHOCTON : Valda M. (Vance) Dawson, age 78, of Coshocton, gained her angel wings on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, after fighting her courageous battle with cancer at Clay Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Zanesville, Ohio where she lived with her loving husband Jack Dawson. Valda was born on December 22, 1938, in Teaberry, Kentucky to Arthur and Rosie (Mitchell) Vance. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1976 and went on to be a school teacher and cherished her many years of teaching until her retirement at Conesville Elementary School in 2002. Valda was a member of Conesville United Methodist Church; a Pink Lady at CCMH, participated in the Helping Hands in Texas, and was an avid Buckeye fan, never missing a game. She and her husband, Jack, enjoyed traveling the world and spent 14 winters at their winter home in Harlingen, Texas. Along with her husband of 57 years, Jack Dawson, Valda is survived by her daughter, Julie Deanna (Mick) Schonauer of Columbus and son Scott Carl (Jeri) Dawson of Coshocton; three grandchildren, Scott Carl Dawson II, Samantha Kaye McNeely, and Hunter Van Haas; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Excell Dawson and Hendrix Larnell Heard; brothers, Glenvil G. (Shirley) Vance, Julius J. (Deborah) Vance, Gary M (Janet) Vance, and Coy D. Vance; sisters, Loretta Horne, Gilberta (Ronald) Lutz, Delois A. Marcum, and Saundra L (Charles Sapp) Vance; and many nieces, nephews, and other family relatives. She is preceded in death by her bothers, Wellman W. Vance, Arthur Vance Jr.; sister, Peggy Crawford and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Valda had a kind and gentle spirit, was loved by all and will be sadly missed until we meet again in heaven. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Phillip Gibson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Valda's name to .
