Thomas Johnson, son of the late Thomas Fair and Inez Johnson, was born on April 25, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC. He entered into the presence of God, Tuesday morning, November 15, 2016. Mr. Johnson attended school in Chesterfield County, SC. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and became a life-long member of Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Cheraw, SC, where his grandfather, Willie J. Sane "Poppa" Johnson was one of the founding members. Mr. Johnson later moved to Charlotte, NC, where he resided for most of his life. Even after relocating to Charlotte, Mr. Johnson maintained his membership at Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, but also attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Cherry neighborhood. He was a hard worker throughout his life, spending time working in building maintenance and retail. He also worked for many years as a funeral attendant with Alexander Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Thrifty Car Rental and Alamo National Car Rental at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. With grateful hearts for his life, he leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters, Dr. Sylvia Bittle-Patton (Myron) and Yolanda Allyssa "Lisa" Wright of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Lester Johnson (Mary) of Ruby, SC; three sisters, Clara J. Gordon and Bunny Johnson of Chesterfield, SC; and Rosa Fair of Baltimore, MD; sister-in law, Mary R. Johnson of Chesterfield, SC; three aunts, Ruby J. Lee of Albemarle, NC; Dorothy J. Singletary of Denver, CO; and Sarah H. Johnson of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, John, Christelle and Alton, all of Baltimore, MD; Mylon, Myllonne, Cordero, Amare, Amillio and Chloe, all of Charlotte, NC; eleven great-grandchildren; and one special god-son and his family, Richard Rivers (Beverly) of Chesterfield, SC.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, 2729 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Cheraw, SC, 29520. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, SC. Flemming Funerals of Chesterfield is serving the Johnson family.
