Terrie Carol Jones Whittier, 77, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. Daughter of the late Carl Leon Jones and Tommie Elaine Toler Jones, she was born on July 15, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. She is preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Whitesell. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, V. L. Whittier; three children, Lee Whittier, Tiffany (Rob) Whitesell and Tamara (John) Houle; four grandchildren, Jonathon, Madeline, Lillian and David Whitesell.Mrs. Whittier graduated Cum Laude from Florida State University, receiving a B.A. in English in 1961 and M.A. in English Education in 1963. While a student, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honorary societies, Treasurer of Mortar Board, President and Treasurer of Garnet Elections, Chief Justice of Traffic Court and a member of Women's F Club (athletics) and Alpha Lambda Delta. She was elected Most Outstanding Sorority Woman in 1961, appeared in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1961 and was elected to the FSU Hall of Fame. She was an instructor at FSU College of Education, taught English at Florida High School (FSUS) and was a substitute teacher for many years. She was a member of Friends of Children's Home Society, FSU Extra Point Club and First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, where she taught in the Nursery Department.Services will be held at the chapel of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee on Thursday, April 27th, with visitation at 2 p.m. and a service to follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the FSU Extra Point Club players' equipment and supply program, P.O.
