Shirley MahanyDes MoinesShirley Ann Mahany, 91, passed away Wednesday July 5th at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday July 9th at Dunn's Funeral home in Des Moines, and a mass will be held 9:30 am TUESDAY July 11th, at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm in Johnston. Shirley Geier was born on May 26, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Francis and Margaret Geier. She married Robert Mahany, and lived in Burlington Iowa, and Columbia Missouri before settling in Des Moines where they welcomed their son Patrick in 1960.Bob and Shirley loved to travel and collect antiques. Shirley was known to her many friends as an avid entertainer, who had a love of all holidays, especially the 4th of July, and Christmas. Her love of Christmas parlayed into having her home photographed for Better Homes and Garden's Holiday Home Edition in December of 1973. A longtime member of St. Agustin's Church in Des Moines, Shirley's faith guided her as she lost her husband in 2001 to cancer. Left to honor her memory are Son, Patrick (Sarah) Mahany, of Des Moines, Brother, Donald Geier, of Windsor Heights, and her beloved Grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kyle Mahany, of Des Moines and Stephanie Moulder of Houston, TX.
