Shirley H. Van Berkel (nee Menting) age 81, of Combined Locks, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. She was born on April 28, 1935 to the late John and Helen (Jusko) Menting in Combined Locks. She graduated from Kimberly High School. Shirley married George Van Berkel on August 4, 1956. Shirley and George were blessed with four children, James, Daniel, Nancy and Jerry. George preceded Shirley on February 8, 1996. Shirley started her work in the restaurant business with Miller's A & W and Salm's Restaurant. She eventually owned and operated The Village Inn, a restaurant in Kimberly, for seven years. Most recently she worked at the McDonald's in Kimberly. She also kept busy at home caring for her family. In recent years she enjoyed playing Bingo and shopping with her daughter, Nancy. Above all Shirley loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her four children: James (Krista), Dan (Missy), Nancy (Ralph) Moser and Jerry (Kim); grandchildren: Keith, Bill, Luke Quella, Theresa (Skyler) Evers, Korie and Kelly, Kevin and Jesse, Becky (Louie) Schmidt, Mike and Amy Moser, Josh Wolfinger, Stephanie (Matt) Garvey and Sarah; great grandchildren: Lillian Evers, Brooklyn and Charlotte Van Berkel, Summer, Ryan and Emily Schmidt, Alyssa and Baby Garvey. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, George; granddaughter, Amie Van Berkel; her brother: Dennis Menting; sisters: Elaine (Ken) Gutowski and Delores (Richard) Vanden Oever. Shirley was preceded in death by many other dear family members. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 starting at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at FARGO FUNERAL HOME, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue in Kaukauna. Interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery in Combined Locks. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Shirley's name. Online condolences can be offered at
