Scott J. Chandler Obituary

Jan 12, 1951 - Sep 29, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Scott J. ChandlerJanuary 12, 1951 - September 29, 2016Scott J. Chandler, 65, of Boise, Idaho, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at his home of natural causes. Scott was born on January 12, 1951, in Boise, Idaho, to Kathleen and Earl Chandler. He attended elementary, middle, and high school in Boise and graduated from Boise High School in 1969. Scott attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture. After college, Scott returned to Idaho and started Caldwell Building Supply with his older brother Ken to get hands-on experience running a small business. In 1977, Scott and Ken sold Caldwell Building Supply and Scott went to work at Chandler Corporation as Director of Administration. He then became manager of Chandler Corporation's branch in Fontana, California, and continued in that position when the company was sold to Canadian Forest Products in 1981. Scott married his wife, Lynnette, in 1981, and returned to Boise a year later to operate The Masonry Center, Inc., a building materials wholesale distribution business. Scott managed, and eventually become president of, The Masonry Center, a position he held for 34 years. In addition to his role at The Masonry Center, throughout his professional career, Scott was the Managing Partner of Orchard Partners LLC, Vice Chairman of the Syringa Bank Board of Directors, Secretary and a Board Member of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Boise, and a 13-year member of the Boise City Historic Preservation Commission. As a long time building materials businessman, developer, and Preservation Committee member, Scott's tasteful fingerprints are all over the city of Boise. Not only is he credited with facilitating the Orchard Street cross walk, but perhaps his most impressive and lasting legacy is the beautiful building complex at Orchard Place, home of the CSC, IPTV, Syringa, and E. F. Chandler buildings, to which he gave birth and nurtured. Scott worked hard, but he also loved to have fun with his family and friends. Something he enjoyed most was sharing his love of travel. Conveniently, traveling offered him the opportunity to indulge in all of his other favorite hobbies: good food, good music, and a medium for satisfying his incredible curiosity for the world around him.Scott wore many hats in the community. The hat he wore best was that of a great friend and, even better, husband, son, brother, and, especially, father. Although he loomed large, Scott was a quiet man of action with a witty, dry sense of humor that could sneak up on his friends and family in the perfect way. He was also considered by his family and friends to be the most loyal and dependable person they knew. If you ever needed help, advice, or simply someone to talk to, no matter how busy he was (and he was always busy), Scott always patiently and selflessly took the time to give a thoughtful, apt, and cogent response that was always helpful and comforting. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lynnette; his children, Michelle (Heiden) Bliss, Stephanie (Cory) Wiltshire, Eric; his grandchild, Cohen Chandler Bliss; parents Kathleen and Earl Chandler; and brothers Ken, and Tom (Eve) as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 7, at 3:00 PM, in the Emmaus Chapel at the Cathedral of the Rockies, 717 N. 11th Street, Boise, Idaho, with reception following.Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Idaho Public Television, http://idahoptv.org/ ; Immanuel Lutheran Church, 707 W. Fort Street; or Preservation Idaho, P.O. Box 1495, Boise, Idaho 83701.Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel. 1205 W. Bannock St. Boise, ID 83702. 208-343-6493.
