SHEILA A. GRANGER Obituary

Nov 06, 1935 - Mar 11, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
GRANGER, Sheila, A. Sheila Anne Granger died peacefully at her home in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on March 10th 2017; she was surrounded by loved ones at the time. Sheila was born on November 5th 1935 to Omer Joseph Granger and Alice Marie Gallant in Lewiston, Maine. She grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and attended Nashua High School and the University of Vermont. Sheila was married for 38 years to the late Benjamin L. Antonellis, Jr. and spent the majority of her adult life caring for and loving her five children: Lucia Corbett and her husband John of Reading, MA; Renee Fields and her husband Edward of Los Gatos, CA; Cynthia Sheridan and her husband David of Wellesley, MA; Maria Flannery and her husband William of Hopkinton, MA; and Anthony Antonellis and his wife Kristen of Ann Arbor, MI. After spending many summers on Cape Cod and falling in love with the ocean, Sheila moved to the Cape in 2000. There, she crafted a lovely home where she lived for almost 17 years. Sheila was always very active and had a "love for life" that was underscored by her many, diverse activities. In her early adult life she volunteered for the Orphans of Italy, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the political campaigns of Father Robert Drinan and Barney Frank. Later on she became an accomplished artist and produced dozens of beautiful paintings, which she shared with her family and friends, and which she sold at art shows on Cape Cod. Sheila also volunteered at the Cape Cod Museum of Art—where she served on the Friends of the Museum support group—and was a member of the Yarmouth Art Guild and Cape Cod Art Association. Throughout her life, Sheila loved gardening, traveling, and cooking. She maintained beautiful flower and herb gardens at her home and would draw from the latter for her daily cooking. Sheila traveled to Italy dozens of times and enjoyed vacations in Paris and southern France. She was an incredible cook and had a remarkable knack for walking into any under-supplied kitchen and whipping up meals that would put professional chefs to shame. In pursuing all of these activities, Sheila served as an outstanding example for her children and grandchildren, and prepared them well for exploring this challenging and beautiful world. Indeed, her happiest memories were of spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and sharing her experiences and family history with them. In addition to her five children, Sheila is survived by her sister Elaine Conlin (husband James), 12 grandchildren (Zander, Zoe, Nicholas, Katie, Marina, Alex, Vanessa, Julia, Hannah, Fiona, Morgan, and Benjamin), two great-grandchildren (McKenzie and Madisyn), and five nieces and nephews (Eric, Kevin, Ann, William, and Thomas). A memorial service will be held at Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola (28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts) on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation ( http://www.jdrf.org).
