September 20, 1922 - December 7, 2016S.F. "Jack" Danysh was born on September 20, 1922 in DeWitt County, Texas. At age 6, a year before start of the Great Depression, he moved to what became the family farm where his commitment to his faith, family and country was forged. Jack graduated from Yorktown High School in 1941 and moved to San Antonio before enlisting in the U.S.
Army in 1942. He served his country in the Signal Corps during
World War II in the Philippines and occupied Japan. Returning home in 1946, Jack wasted no time in marrying his love, best friend and companion of 70 years, Clara Jablonski.Post-war, Jack began his 38year career with the then AT&T subsidiary Western Electric Company. He led the effort to convert the phone systems of small town Texas from switch boards to rotary dial services, traveling all over his beloved state to do so. Jack retired in 1984. His retirement was filled with travel, projects and service to his Church. He and Clara journeyed throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and to Europe, Canada and South America. "I just wanted to see what the rest of the world looks like, the occupations, the language, the weather and the way of life. I have always enjoyed meeting people of different nationalities". When not traveling, he managed to build 3 homes; several additions; lavish houses and forts for grandchildren; and to supervise and assist in the projects of his parish, St. Matthews.Jack's Catholic faith was devout and service driven. He served in numerous service and leadership positions over the years. Those included serving on building and finance committees for his parish and the Archdiocese; and as an usher; greeter and member of his cherished Monday "money counting" group at St. Matthews. Daily Mass and regular prayer were his mainstay.Jack Danysh was a man who never forgot where he started and how fortunate he had been in his lifetime. He said recently: "It was tough, I can't believe it looking at where we started to where we are today. I have to thank God."S.F. Danysh was predeceased by his parents Frank S.
