Ryan Nathaniel StephenEast Lansing & FentonRyan Nathaniel Stephen, age 24, of East Lansing and Fenton formerly of Williamston, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017.Funeral service will be held at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, time and date will be announced later.Ryan was born on September 13, 1993 in Flint, Michigan on his great grandmother's 75th birthday; son of Ted and Kim Stephen.He was a graduate of Williamston High School and Senior at Michigan State University majoring in chemical engineering.He was a student assistant in the State of Michigan's DEQ Oil, Gas and Minerals Division and had worked previously in the DHHS state laboratory.He had a passion for music and was an accomplished guitar player. He saved for years to buy a Gibson Les Paul. "Nothing quite soothes the soul like kicking back and playing a little guitar," he wrote in October 2013 while at school."Absolutely nothing to clear the mind like playing guitar on the beach with the breeze blowing and the waves crashing," he wrote on Facebook during a visit to Cocoa Beach, Fla., in December 2013.He enjoyed the mountains and skiing in Colorado. He lived on Lobdell Lake and enjoyed swimming and boating.He loved the game of football and was a member and player of the 2011 Williamston varsity football team that competed for the state championship at Ford Field.Survived by his parents, Kim and Ted Stephen of Fenton; maternal grandmother Janet Carter of Lapeer; uncles and aunts including Rod (Stepheny) Stephen of Marion; Jenny (Ralph) Compton of Flint; Brenda (Jim) Walter of New Port Richey, FL; Brad Stephen of Essexville; Jeff Stephen of Mt. Morris; Melissa (Bryce) Alford of Williamston; Roxanne (Don) Wyatt of Flint; Suzette (Bob) Trent of Highland; cousins, Dylan Wyatt, Sawyer Wyatt, Jenna Trent, Austin Alford, Hunter Trent, Allie Alford, Bruce Stephen, Tony Yount, Tracy Holt, Greg Hannigan, Stephen Carroll, Laura Joule, Andrea Stephen, Jessica Stephen, Jerod Stephen, Caci Stephen;many special friends.Those desiring may make contributions to the family for a foundation in Ryan's memory.He was preceded in death by grandparents, Warren Carter, Jr., Joe and Juanita Stephen; great-grandparents, Hazel and Willard Engstrom, Vera and Warren Carter and Alice Clapp.Your condolences may be shared with the family at
