Our precious mother, grandmother, Ruth Virginia Crenshaw Crook, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14. Ruth was born in Watsonville, to Wiley and Sylvia Cunningham Crenshaw, on Jan. 18, 1926. The family moved to Salinas when Ruth was 2. She attended Lincoln Elementary, was in the first class at Washington Middle School, and graduated from Salinas High in 1943. Go Cowboys! She enjoyed celebrating their 70th class reunion last year. Ruth went on to Hartnell College, and transferred to Cal Berkeley. Go Bears! She graduated with a degree in Chemistry/ Laboratory Technology. Coming back to Salinas, she fell in love with Bill Crook. They were married in 1948, and shared their lives until Bill's passing in 1993. Ruth worked as a Lab Tech at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in its early years, and had a 25 year career in the lab at Natividad Hospital. Ruth was a loving and devoted mother to Mary Jane and Jeff Crook. She was proud to be Mother-in-Law to Ronnie Choate, and Kim Tschumperlin. She enjoyed supporting all of her children's activities, sports, Boy Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. When the grandchildren, Billy and Chris Choate, and Michael and Megan Crook, came along, she was thrilled! Grandma Ruth never missed a game, concert, recital, or school event. She was their biggest supporter and cheerleader! She passed on her love of sports ( Go Giants!) to all of us. Ruth was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Salinas. She carried out her faith by doing and serving. She was an active member of many committees through the years, and loved her church family dearly. Through the years, she was a member of the Salinas Chapter of American Assoc. of University Women, Salinas Women's Club, Cal Alumni Assoc., Friendship Club at First Presbyterian, and Active Seniors. She loved traveling with those groups to many destinations around the US, Europe, and China. Her favorite yearly activity was spending time with family at Pinecrest Lake in the Sierras. Ruth is survived by her children and grandchildren, and numerous cousins. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
