January 24, 1932 - October 26, 2016Rudolph Richard Winkler was called home to his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on October 26, 2016. Rudy was born on January 24, 1932 to Friedrich Oskar Winkler & Annie Christianna Beisert Winkler in Loebau, Texas. Rudy was baptized on February 14, 1937 at Christ Lutheran Church and was confirmed into the Lutheran Church on April 14, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in The Grove, Texas. Rudy married Florence Loretta Renaud on February 5, 1955 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan. The Lord blessed them with 5 children. Rudy and Florence left Michigan and started a life together in Temple, Texas thrashing and picking up pecans and doing carpentry work. Rudy met Burt Joiner and began traveling south Texas building gas stations. After a year of traveling, he finally settled in San Antonio, Texas. There Rudy started his own construction company headquartered out of an office he built in his own garage. Rudy worked construction his whole life and built many, many buildings which included the gymnasium at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, his home church. When Rudy retired he was happy and content in raising cows on his farm. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents Oskar and Annie Winkler, his daughters Debra Marie Lugar and Sharon Rose Shasteen. Rudy is survived by his wife of 61 years Florence Winkler and his children Susan Braden (Jerry), Richard Winkler (Lisa), and Burt Winkler (Janet). Also grandkids Melissa Lugar, Kristen McKanna, Michelle Ritzen, Matthew Braden, Megan Braden, Cecil Sorsby, Misty Hester, Christopher Shasteen, Brandon Shasteen, Cody Winkler, great grandkids Cori Sorsby, Ashlin Sorsby, Tanner Hester, Kierstyn Hester and Caleb Sorsby and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rudy's name to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund.
