Ruby L. Whitney, 93, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family.She was born on April 13, 1923 in Willow Grove, daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Jones Greenley.Ruby was a dedicated cashier for Acme stores in Dover for many years. She was a faithful member for 40-plus years of First Baptist Church, Dover and loved to volunteer her time, which she did for the social security office, Kent General Hospital and the Modern Maturity Center.Ruby was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene; and two sisters, Thelma Queen and Cora Bilbrough.She is survived by two daughters, Christine (Shulties) Septer of Smyrna and Terri Whitney-Rose of Camden; a sister, Irene Emery of Dover; grandchildren Donna Maley and Scot Septer; great-grandsons Matthew, Peter, TJ, Jacob and Caleb and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Rd., Dover, DE 19901.Letters of condolence can be sent via www.pippinfunerahome.com.
