Roy Ivan Bishop, Jr Roy Ivan Bishop Jr, 95, passed away peacefully at his home in Olympia on December 1, 2016, with his family by his side. Roy was born on February 12, 1921 in Spokane, WA. He graduated from John Rogers High School in Spokane, WA. He starred on the high school golf team and also played amateur hockey. After high school, he moved to Seattle and worked for Boeing, where he met Jennie "Jean" Kosnoski. They married on January 15, 1944, in Seattle. He served in the U.S. Army/Air Force as a Corporal in the 970th Counter Intelligence Corps during
WWII. In the 50's and 60's, he owned and operated Bishop's Builders' Supply in Raymond, WA. In Raymond, he captured the Willapa Harbor Men's Golf Club Championship numerous times, and had the honor of playing in an exhibition match at the Centralia Elks Golf Course alongside golf legend, Byron Nelson. He was a 48-year member of the PGA; during which time he executed seven holes-in-one. In 1962, he was the first Golf Professional at Olympia's newly constructed Capitol City Golf Course, and he went on to develop Mountain Greens Golf Range & Mobile Home Park. During this time, he also assisted his son with golf operations over the years at Grays Harbor Country Club and The First Tee of Olympia. At the time of his passing, Roy was the oldest member of the PNWPGA. He jokingly commented, "I finally made it to the top of the leader board!" Roy was a devoted family man who loved God, golf, telling a good story, and following any and all of his grandkids' sports activities. He never had an enemy, as he thought the best of everyone. Roy is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean; daughter, Karen (John) Logue; son, Kevin (Carrie) Bishop; five grandchildren Scott (Kelcee) Gurnsey, Justin (Kate) Gurnsey, Andrea (Dusty) Kinley, Jeff (Autumn) Bishop, Jason (Megan) Bishop; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will occur from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM on December 9th, 2016 at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S. Gold Street in Centralia, WA. A graveside service will immediately follow on Friday, December 9th, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Claquato Cemetery,142 Stearns Road in Chehalis, WA.
