Roy BensorVentura, CARoy Bensor, age 89, passed away at his home after a brief illness on December 21, 2016 in Ventura, California. Roy was born on April 29, 1927 in Ventura to Ysidro and Ramona Bensor.Roy, a longtime resident of Ventura, graduated from Ventura High School in 1944. After high school Roy joined the army where he served his country honorably during World War II. Roy, known as Oil Well Roy and Roy Boy, worked for a number of different oil companies as an oil pump salesman. He was an active member of the Ventura Elks, Ventura Trade Club and Piru Petroleum Club.Roy married Delores Ostrem Metcalfe in 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were happily married for 37 years. Roy was an avid golfer who enjoyed the game and belonged to many men's golf clubs. For many years he volunteered as the Superintendent of the Ventura County Fair Parade and the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Roy was preceded in death by his parents Ysidro and Ramona, brother Al Bensor (Chris), brother Joe Bensor (Carmen), brother in-law Steven Horvath all of Ventura, California. He was also preceded in death by brother in-law Rex Ostrem of Salem, Oregon and his best cat friend - Mr. Murffy. Roy is survived by his wife Dodie, his sister Maria Bensor Horvath of Ventura, his step daughter Sherry Bohn (Bill) of Hood River,Oregon and grand dog Kiona. Roy is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews from both the Bensor and Ostrem families. Roy enjoyed special relationships with nieces Roxy Ostrem and Barbara Ostrem Pinkerton of Ventura, California, grand nephew Brent Pinkerton of Ventura, California and grand niece Danielle Pinkerton Romo (Jose) of Maple Valley, Washington. Roy, called Uncle Boy, enjoyed many fun times with Brent and Danny when he would pick them up from school and share their enthusiasm for life's latest adventures. Last summer, Roy enjoyed great pleasure when he welcomed one of the newest members to the family as he held his great-grand niece Delilah Romo of Washington . A family service and burial was held in January at Ivy Lawn.
