Rosella “Sally” Butters, 76, of Salinas, was reunited with her late husband Ronald G. Butters and late daughter Patricia Ann-Butters-Suddath on August 11, 2015 after a long struggle with illness. She passed away quietly at home peacefully surrounded by her son and beloved dogs.
Ms. Butters was a Salinas resident since her husband retired from the US Army in 1978. A world traveler, she came from humble beginnings growing up in a sod dirt house on the Roth Family Farm outside Golden Valley, Western North Dakota. She was the third child in a family of 3 boys and 3 girls
She met her future husband at a St. Patrick’s Day dance in 1956. He told her, “ If you marry me, I’ll show you the world.” She said yes, he joined the Army and travel the world together they did.
She had two children with her loving husband; a Son David and Daughter Patricia.
She was in Germany when the Berlin Wall went up and on the last plane to land at La Guardia Airport NYC from Europe when all flights were grounded during the “Cuban Missile Crisis”. She moved to a new Army base six times in the USA including stops in Alaska, Texas, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and two Army bases overseas in Germany and Korea.
Ms. Butters lived a quiet, active life in Salinas watching her grandchildren grow up. She is survived by her son David H. Butters, her Grandson Hunter L. Suddath and his son Dylan, her Grand-daughter Amber Suddath-Brady and her daughters Collee and Harper.
