GREENSBORO, N.C. — Rosamond "Rosy" Hodnett Jenkins walked into Heaven on Dec. 16, 2014 after a courageous eight-year battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer of the salivary glands.
The family wants to thank the compassionate staffs of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Cone Health Systems, especially Dr. J. Dale Browne and Dr. Peter Ennever. They also wish to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for the excellent care she received during her illness.
Rosy graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in English. She taught in public schools, retiring after 27 years in the Guilford County school system.
Rosy enjoyed the beach and lake, playing tennis, her Bible study group "S'Mores," her church circle, her book club and her grandsons.
Rosy was born on Jan. 9, 1951 in New Bern, North Carolina, to the late Bruston Lovell and Louise DeBrosse (Ellis) Hodnett. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hodnett Beaman; and three brothers, Harold Bruce Hodnett, Robert Nolan Hodnett and Ronald Neal Hodnett.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Jenkins Jr. of 41 years; daughter, Lauren Jenkins Seifried; son-in-law Ethan William Seifried; and two grandsons; Ethan William Seifried Jr., and Ezra Joseph Seifried of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Hodnett Bass of Raleigh and Linda Louise Hodnett of New Bern; two brothers; Donald Ray Hodnett of Orlando, Florida and Gerald Ellis Hodnett of Wilmington; plus 16 nieces and six nephews.
A celebration of Rosy's life will be held at 11a.m. on Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 3906 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro. The family will receive friends afterward in the church fellowship hall.
