Ronald Earl Day, 75, of Salinas passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. He was born to parents Earl and Mary (née Ramsey) Day, on December 1, 1939, in Salinas, California. He was a lifelong resident of Salinas. Ron graduated from Salinas High School in 1957 where he excelled in baseball. In his senior year he caught the eye of a baseball scout from Stanford University and was offered a scholarship but decided to join the U.S. Navy with his brother Gary. Ron proudly served as a gunners mate for four years and was honorably discharged in 1961. In his youth, Ron worked for his father in the produce business. He later was a foreman at Yoder Brothers and he owned The Cottage Cafe in the late 1960's. Ron worked as a skilled carpenter for the majority of his life. Ron was a San Francisco 49er's and Giants faithful. He loved doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. He enjoyed passing the time with his many friends and fellow veterans at the American Legion Post 593. He was preceded in death by his parents B.E. And Mary Day and his younger brother Gary Gregg Day. Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years Charlene Patterson Day, his son Gary G. Day, daughters Kären (Stan) Hitchcock and Sherry Garcia, five grandchild Jovan (Atilla) Virag, Tyler Day, Ross, Hanna, and Claire Hitchcock, two great-grandchildren Evia and Warren Virag, and brother Douglas (Linda) Day. Donations can be made to donors favorite charity.
