Young, 81 years old, passed away at 10:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend while surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born on May 1, 1935 in Charles City, Iowa to the late Homer and Thelma (Theno) Young. On June 6, 1959 in South Bend at St. Jude Catholic Church, Roger and Gail Myers were united in marriage. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gail and their three children; Douglas Young, Dirk (Mary Jo) Young, and Darci Young, all of South Bend; and three granddaughters, Chelsea, Cassie, and Jamie Young. Roger is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by infant sons, Derek and David; sister, Thelma Kuruzar; and two brothers, Ralph Nockels and Gordon Young.Roger was the former owner and CEO of Heat Treat, Inc. beginning his career at Heat Treat in 1948. He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1958-1964. Roger was also a charter member of the Coachmen Auto Club. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan and avid supporter of St. Mary's softball and Notre Dame athletics. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roger L. Young may be donated to the Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 S.
