Robert Wolfgang Flecksteiner Obituary

May 19, 1994 - Nov 05, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Robert Wolfgang Flecksteiner
Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert (Bobb) Wolfgang Flecksteiner was born on May 19, 1994. He graduated from Rootstown High School and passed away on Saturday November 5, 2016. Petty Officer Flecksteiner enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 2013. After graduating in October 2013 from Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois he reported to Nuclear Power School in Goose Creek, S.C.. In May of 2014 he converted to Boatswain's Mate and reported to his first permanent duty station on board the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in December of 2014. In August of 2015 he transferred to the USS George Washington (CVN 73) as part of the Navy's first three carrier hull swap and participated in an "Around the Horn" cruise from San Diego to Norfolk. In January of 2016 he reported to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). During his service in the Navy, he earned the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Pistol Marksman Ribbon. He qualified in Deck Watches, Damage Control, Maintenance and Material Management, Messenger and Petty Officer of the Watch as well as Exercise Safety Observer. One of his fellow shipmates had this to say about him, "He loved being underway. I loved when he had 22-02 watch cause he said Taps at night and his voice was the last I heard before going to sleep. And he was so good at piping. He picked that up so quickly and did it so well. He was my favorite BMOW cause he really knew his stuff. His intelligence always had me in awe. I got a little kooky when we were underway so I'd always find him so he could tell me how nonsensical I am, HAHA. I hope in some way our friendship made him happy. He always told me about the bands he was in but I never heard him sing. I wish I did. I thought we had more time. I'm so glad I had in my life. I know if he were here he'd be telling me 'you'll be alright, you'll be okay' Rest in peace, sailor. You will be missed." Survivors include his parents, Robert and Jennifer Flecksteiner; his brother, Alexander; his grandparents, Frank and Betty Flecksteiner; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Cecilia Conley. Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Newman Center in Kent, Ohio. (Everyone please meet at Church) Military honors will follow by the U.S. Navy. Donations may be made to the County of San Diego Animal Services, 2481 Palomar Airport Rd., Carlsbad, California 92011 Condolences and memories of Robert may be shared with the family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
