Robert R. SimpsonNovember 30, 1925 - March 1, 2017Spring GroveRobert R. Simpson "Simmy", 91, passed away suddenly at home on March 1, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Lois R. (Rhine); together they shared over 69 years of marriage. Robert was born on November 30, 1925 in Penn. Twp. and was the son of the late Amos R. and Sadie L. (Huff) Simpson. He proudly served his country in the
United States Navy during World War II, where he was stationed aboard the USS David W. Taylor-DD551 in the Pacific Theatre of Operations before being honorably discharged and was the president of the USS David W. Taylor Association. He then went on to work for the P.H. Glatfelter Paper Mill for 35 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed volunteering at the Margaret Moul Home in York. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hanover for over 71 years and was also a past deacon. He was a life member of both the Porters Fire CO. and Pvt. Allen J. Beck Jr.
VFW Post 5265. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his sons, Stephen S. Simpson and wife, Susie of Wrightsville and Chris K. Simpson of East Berlin; his daughters, Cheryl "Shelley" L. Albright and husband, Jake of Hanover and Kathi A. Tsataris and husband, Vic of Abbottstown; his 14 grandchildren; his 26 great-grandchildren; and his one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his sisters, Ethel Gebhart of Hanover, Hilda Rabenstine of Gettytsburg, and Dolly Kehr of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert R. Simpson II; and ten brothers and sisters. Following cremation, a memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Sunday March 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York St, Hanover, PA 17331, with Pastor Peg Grzelkowski and Pastor Paul Guiliano officiating. Military Honors will be provided at the church by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Family services are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., of Spring Grove. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Allen J. Beck Jr. VFW Post 5265, P.O. Box 54, Spring Grove PA 17362.
