WELLINGTON-Dare, Robert L. Age 88, lifelong Wellington resident, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, KS. He worked as a salesman for Jostens for over 30 years. Robert L. Dare was born on February 3, 1928 in Wellington, KS, to William H. Dare and Frances F. (Smith) Dare. He was raised in Wellington and was a WHS graduate with the Class of 1946. Bob then joined the United States Army and served from September of 1946 March of 1948. After active duty, he then served in the United States Air Force Reserves. Bob graduated from the University of Kansas in 1952. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Robert married Patsy Jean Gault on July 20, 1958 in Wellington, KS. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Bob was an avid golfer throughout his life. He won the 1969 Kansas State Amateur Championship, and the 1989 Senior Amateur Championship, as well as numerous other tournaments in Kansas and the surrounding states. He was president of the Kansas Amateur Mens Golf Association from 1969-1972 and was instrumental in developing junior golf in the state. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching KU basketball games. He was active in his church family, was a deacon and taught Sunday school class. He also volunteered his knowledge and time to prepare tax returns at the Wellington Senior Center. Bob was a member of the Wellington Church of Christ and the American Legion Tom Schwinn Post #90. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy on February 24, 2016; and one granddaughter, Melissa Hughes. Survivors include two children, Bill Dare and his wife, Ami of Tulsa, OK and Jean Ann Hughes of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Monica, Madison and Matthew Hughes and Lauren, Benjamin and Preston Dare. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Church of Christ on Mr. Michael Nelson and Mr. Tom Norris will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established with the Wellington Golf Course Trust Fund in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
