Robert A. Johnson'Bobby'Hopewell Junction - Robert A. Johnson, affectionately known as "Bobby", 70, of Hopewell Junction, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.He was born on December 17, 1946 in LeRoy, NY to the late Gerald and Dorothy Johnson. Robert was a long-time resident of Dutchess County and he also resided in Columbia County.Bobby made a career out of driving. He was a truck driver for the Poughkeepsie Journal until he moved onto school bus driving for A&E Transportation, Loop and Johnston & Johnston. He had a passion for being behind the wheel until he retired in 2013. In addition to being a truck/school bus driver, he worked for Brooklyn Bottling in the late 80s/early 90s. He loved working outdoors. As a child, he grew up on a farm in upstate NY and that's where his heart and passion lied in farming. He loved to collect hot rod magazines, antique tractors, and he enjoyed putting together model cars. Bobby is survived by his ex-wife and friend of 34 years, Sharon L. Johnson, of Hudson, and his three children: step-daughter, LeeAnn Hoffman, and her husband, Robert, of Hudson; son, Matthew R. Johnson, of Hudson; and daughter, Mandi Johnson, of Philmont. He was the proud grandpa to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Robert is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by two older brothers, Roger and Donnie Johnson. In keeping with Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place.A memorial celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 at the Clinton Alliance Church, 1192 Centre Rd., Rhinebeck. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am with a service to follow.
