RACINE - Robert J. Peterson, 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on June 22, 1927, the son of the late Martin and Dagmar (née: Pedersen) Peterson. On July 27, 1950 Robert was united in marriage to Winifred Finucan in Tomah, WI. Bob was a 1945 graduate of Washington Park High School. He continued his education at vocational school and while serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1945 to 1946 and the United States Army from 1947 to 1949. Part of his service time was in the North Atlantic and in Alaska. Returning home he was employed as a Tomah Police Officer. He was employed in many facets, including 23 years as a Racine County Deputy Sheriff, retiring in 1986. Bob was a past member of the Deputy Sheriff Assoc. and former secretary. He also had been a truck driver. Bob enjoyed woodworking, carving and fishing. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Winnie and their children; Mary Nelmark, John (Cindy) Peterson, Steve (Lisa Bohon) Peterson all of Racine and Ann (Tim) Valley of Madison; two grandchildren, Melora Nelmark of Racine and Henry Valley of Madison. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by brother, Donald (Sue) Peterson and sister, Vivian (Harry) Sattler. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Mike Iggulden officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday, before services from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Special thank you to the staff and residents at Lake Oaks for their kind hearts.
