Robert (Bob) GardinierNearly a generation of the Gardinier family ended with the death of Robert (Bob) Gardinier who died on March 11, 2016, at the age of 84, in Yakima Cedar Hills Home for dementia. Son of Robert & Wanda Bradshaw Gardinier, Bob was born on February 22, 1932. He graduated from EHS in 1950 and farmed on the west side of the valley with his father. He served in the Army from 1955-1957, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where he earned several medals excelling on the rifle team. After his return from the service, Bob became a life-long farmer and resident of Kittitas County. In 1966 he married Avadene Tavis Peterson, a widow with two children, Lyle & Pam, whom Bob adopted when they were nine and six respectively. Son Steve was born in 1967. Bob & Avadene lived in an ideal setting for the mountains he loved and the farms and friends that surrounded him. He and wife Avadene enjoyed 49 years on that land, together creating memories of a full and active life. Their traveling included trips to the south in the winter and to Iowa in the fall to the Amish Horse Auction. The Gardiner's often hosted the local Good Sam RV Club gatherings and went on many camping trips with the group. They enjoyed fishing trips to Alaska and Canada. Although he worked the farm in the spring and summer, Bob eagerly awaited the local hunting season in the fall, winter snowmobiling & skiing. His interests were so varied that he and Avadene enjoyed a myriad of activities upon his retirement: cruises, cross-county road trips with friends and dancing, which was a hobby since their marriage. As his health declined, Bob and Avadene remained active and a part of their friends' lives. Bob belonged to the Kittitas Valley Rifle Association, The Cattleman's Association, The Clymer Museum, the Moose, Elks and Eagles Lodges, the American Legion, Rigadoon, The Gold Buckle Club and the Ellensburg Golf Club.
