This obituary is administered by:
Robert E. ArmstrongRobert (Bob) Eugene Armstrong, 88, of Friendswood, Texas died on January 14, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Friendswood. He was born on August 9, 1928 in Omaha, Illinois to Charles Armstrong and Mazie Russell Armstrong. The family moved to Lawrenceville, Illinois when Bob was three. Bob and some friends at Lawrenceville High School formed a dance band playing many venues. He admitted that they were probably not the best band around, but they played loudly and cheaply. After Bob graduated from high school in 1946, he entered Vincennes University graduating with an A. S. degree in 1948. He enrolled at the University of Illinois graduating with a major in psychology in 1951. His National Guard 44th Division was activated into federal service and Bob was assigned to Korea. Bob was awarded the bronze star medal for heroic achievement against an enemy. Upon his return to the United States he found that jobs were very scarce for industrial psychologist (his degree). He then accepted a sales position with the Quaker Oats Company in St. Louis, Missouri. One of his stops was to Dixon, Missouri where he met Miona (Oney) Crane, the sponsor of the Senior Class that was looking for a fundraiser. Salesman Robert Armstrong convinced the class to have what became a very successful pancake breakfast. He was smitten by Miss Crane. They had their first date on October 2, 1954 and became engaged that Thanksgiving. They married on February 19, 1955 in Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla, Missouri. Bob and Oney lived in St. Louis County until 1967 when the moved to Decatur, Illinois for four years. They relocated to Springfield, Missouri in 1971. In Springfield, Bob and Oney were in the real estate business. The Armstrong's were very happy to be able to assist many people with purchasing their first homes, forming lasting friendships with many of them. They were very active members of St. John's Episcopal Church from the moment they arrived in Springfield. The church was their family's life. Bob served multiple terms on the Vestry including holding the office of Senior Warden and being in charge of the endowment fund. They had many good times with members of the Couples Club. In 2009, they moved to Friendswood to be close to three of their children, but they never forgot their many friends in the Ozarks.Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 59 ½ years, in 2014 Miona Armstrong.
