Richard Wright HoveyMarch 17, 1925 - Aug. 26, 2017VisaliaRichard Wright Hovey passed away on August 26, 2017 at the age of 92.Dick was born on March 17, 1925 to Helen and Harold Hovey in Los Angeles, CA. He attended elementary schools in Los Angeles and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1943. Dick enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was a pilot during World War II. Afterwards, he attended UCLA where he met Gloria (Tee) Uhl. They were married on August 20, 1949 and enjoyed a wonderful 68-year marriage. After living briefly in Los Angeles, they moved to Visalia, Tee's birthplace. Dick was co-owner of BHC Crop Service from 1951 to 1957. He joined the brokerage firm of Dean Witter in 1958 and retired from there in 1986. While living in Visalia, Dick was on the boards of the YMCA and Visalia Country Club, was Exalted Ruler of Elks Club 1298, active in the California Indians Trap and Skeet Club and coached Little League baseball. Tee and Dick raised three children and introduced them all to his love of snow skiing. He was also an avid golfer, achieving four hole-in-ones and numerous tournament wins. In addition, he loved to sing and he and Tee were a vision of grace and style on the dance floor. In 1995 Tee and Dick moved to Palm Desert, CA. They also lived for a time in Balboa Island, CA and Park City UT following their love of skiing and golf. They met many of their best friends on trips through the USA and Europe.Dick was a kind, funny and generous man who never met a stranger. His favorite time of the day was 5:00 PM when he and Tee would clink glasses and talk over their day.He was very loved by his family which includes, in addition to Tee, daughter Diana McLaughlin (David), sons Rick Hovey (Lisa), Dean Hovey (Cyndi), grandchildren Casey, Scott, Mindy, Sarah, RT, Phillip and great grandson Makio. Dick's caregiver, Gabriel Suriano, gave loving support to Dick and his family in his declining years and became very much a part of the family.Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to in Dick's name would be appreciated.
