Richard D. WenzRichard D. Wenz, 66, passed away peacefully at home in Green Bay in the company of his family in the afternoon of Friday, September 21, 2012. Richard was born on July 12, 1946 to Samuel and Edna Wenz and was raised on their farm in Algoma, WI. In 1965 he married Jean (Wierer), and spent the next three years in the US Army stationed in Milwaukee and in Germany where the couple enjoyed touring and experiencing European culture.After serving in the Army, Richard went to work for TEAM Electronics in Green Bay, WI. In 1972, TEAM Electronics transferred Richard to Omaha, Nebraska, to take over management of three struggling electronics stores. After one year, all three stores had become very successful. This success drew the interest of investors who took part in creating a furniture rental business with Richard.In 1978 Richard sold his rental furniture stores and moved his family back to the Green Bay area where he ran a 60 acre dairy farm in West DePere. While farming, Richard started Appletree, a furniture and appliance rental business in his garage with the help of his family, his only employees.In 1999, after 17 very successful years with Appletree in three locations, the family opened Wenz Home Furniture, 1693 Main Street, a family business his sons and wife will proudly carry on.Richard was known for his commitment to small, family businesses, his love of the Packers, and his passion for new endeavors.Richard is survived by his wife, Jean and their two sons, Christopher (Andrea) Wenz, and Jesse (Sarah) Wenz of Green Bay, WI; three grandchildren: Cole, Elsa and Rory Wenz; one brother David (Joey) Wenz of Morganton, NC; three sisters Donna (William) Wenthen of Orange Beach, AL; Carol Yero of Omaha, NE; and June (Michael) Delwiche of Sturgeon Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Edna (Meyer) Wenz, sister Betty (Wenz) Sawdo and one infant granddaughter, Natalie Wenz.A celebration of life gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, East-Town Location, at 2379 E.
