Richard L. Follert, 81, of Montrose, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose. His wife of 54 years, Philippa (Hudon) Follert, survives.He was born on March 7, 1934 in Hartford, Conn., to the late Howard Vincent and Velsia (Sweykoski) Follert. In addition to his wife, also surviving are his five children: four daughters, Susan and Douglas Peters, Flemington, N.J., Katherine and David Ebner, Chevy Chase, Md., Elizabeth "Bepsie" and Shannon Perry, West Hartford, Conn., Jennifer and Matthew Artley, Denver, Colo., son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kristen Follert, Montrose; 13 grandchildren, Madeline, Grace and Luke Peters; Nolan and Wynne Ebner; Naomi, Eli, and Isaiah Perry; Clara and Lucia Artley; and Benjamin, Vincent, and Penelope Follert; sister-in-law, Patricia Follert, South Hampton, N.Y.; nephews, Robert Jeffrey Follert and Howard Vincent Follert II. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert P. Follert.Dick was a graduate of Loomis Preparatory School, Windsor, Conn., and received a bachelor's degree in engineering and psychology from Yale University in 1956. He served in the Army '56-'58 under German American space engineer, Dr. Wernher Von Braun, which opened doors at Curtiss-Wright Aviation in Rutherford, N.J. He then worked for 25 years at Link Engineering Co. in Binghamton, N.Y., as a human factors analyst focused on flight simulators.Dick was active in the Parks and Recreation Committee in Montrose, where he was a founding member for what would later become the KLR Fourth of July Celebration. Dick was a jazz enthusiast, played the saxophone, did crossword puzzles daily, enjoyed playing bridge, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Holy Name of Mary Church, with Rev. Richard Burke officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Name of Mary Cemetery. Visitations were held Sunday, January 24 at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.
