Powers, Richard J. died on Saturday, July 22, at 11:30PM at the Summit Memory Care Facility in Mesa, AZ. Daughter, Cheryl, 69, is his only surviving family member. He is preceded by his wife of 67 years, Esther, who died on June 13, 2015 and his son, Jeffrey, who died at age 18 of dermatomyositis in 1970. Richard was born on June 7, 1927 in Cumberland IN, a suburb of Indianapolis to Ruth and Edwin J. Powers. In high school, Dick excelled in track and played football and also trombone and was drum major in the school band.After being trained and getting wings as a fighter pilot, Dick flew for American Airlines from 1954 - 1987.
