WEST LIBERTY - Richard P. "Dick" Hayes, 85, of West Liberty, OH formerly of Lakeview, OH passed away early Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016 at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, OH.

Dick was born on June 18, 1931 in Huntsville, OH to the late H. Gerald "Peck" and E. Dephyne Bradley Hayes. He had one brother, Robert Hayes. On November 11, 1980, he married Alice P. Dickerson Grumbling and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2013. He was also preceded in death by two step-sons, Ronald and Richard Grumbling.

Dick is survived by two step-daughters, Beth Tweed of Lancaster, CA, and Ruth Skrletts of Marietta, GA, two step-sons, Raymond D. "Dan" Grumbling, Jr. of Powell, OH, and Robert D. (Brenda) Grumbling, Sr. of Russells Point, OH, 17 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren.

Dick retired from the United States Army with the rank of Sergeant after 20 years of service. He retired as Director at the Department of Human Services office in Bellefontaine in 1991. He was a member of Grace Chapel Christian Union in Santa Fe, OH. Dick was also a member of Doyle R. Miller Amvet Post #39, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, Indian Lake Eagles Aeries #3615, all of Lakeview, and Bellefontaine VFW Post #1080. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and yardwork, joking around with his family and their annual fall chili cookouts. Most recently, he volunteered at Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty.

Pastor Scott Anderson will conduct funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2016 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Lakeview. Visitation is Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 2-5 pm at the funeral home. Burial is in Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Dick's name to Green Hills Care Center, 6557 US Hwy 68 S, West Liberty, OH 43357.
