Randall (Randy) Jerry Chapman died peacefully of complications of cancer on June 25, 2015, in Yuma, AZ at the age of 58.Randy was born on April 26, 1957 in Yuma, AZ to Jerry and Eula Chapman. As a child, Randy always dreamed of being a police officer, joining the law enforcement explorers while attending Yuma High School from which he graduated in 1975, and the Army Military Police soon after. He served the Phoenix Police Department prior to joining the Yuma Police Department in 1982. During his 32 year tenure, he served as a Patrol Officer, Motor Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Firearms Instructor, Watch Commander, and Police Captain over Patrol and Support Services. He was a graduate of the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, KY. Randy worked as the liaison with mental health care providers in the Yuma area, served on the board of directors of the non-profit Achieve Human Services, and the non-profit Mountain Health and Wellness. Randy was instrumental in constructing the traffic phase of training for the YPD Field Training Officers program as well as developed the courtroom testing class. He commanded the Gang Unit, coordinated the YPD non-lethal weapons program, was chairman of the Sergeant training committee, was the YPD rep for the ITS committee, helped implement the department's transition to 800mhz radios, and was involved in the new YPD station construction team.Randy is survived by his parents Jerry and Eula Chapman; daughters Kathryn Chapman (Seann), Paula Greenlee (Aaron), Shannon Reichelt (Jeff); son Jacob Chapman (Tina); grandchildren Cody, Clay, Seth and Talon Masterson and Gia Greenlee; and siblings Rodney Chapman and Brenda Everett (Kenneth). He is preceded in death by his wife Judi.A visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday June 30, at Sunset Vista Funeral Home Chapel, with funeral services 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1 at the chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Vista Cemetery and pallbearers will be family and the YPD Honor Guard. A reception will follow at Yuma City Hall immediately after.
