Ramiro (Sonny) G. Lozano1937-2016Sonny Lozano, 79, of Houston, Texas passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, November 11, 2016. Sonny was born on June 04, 1937, in Harlingen, Texas, and is the son of the late Manuel Salazar Lozano and the late Francisca Ochoa Lozano. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary A. Lozano.Sonny was an honorably discharged Marine Recruiter in the 1950's. He ruled his life as such and raised his family with a strong work ethic and an iron fist. Sonny was among the first Mexican American salesman to work both delivery and sales for RC Cola and Blue Bell Ice Cream in his early twenties. He later became a top loan and collections officer for Household Finance Company (HFC) in downtown Houston. Sonny's profession in the1970's through 1984, was inspired by his customer's in the auto body repair business, whom he met while working at HFC as a loan officer. These customers inspired him to open his own auto body repair shop. In 1974, he became the owner of Lozano's Custom Paint & Body Shop, formerly located at 1619 North Main, across from PaPa Burger, and adjacent to the Pan America Ballroom.Survivors, in addition to his wife, include sisters, Rachel Wondrak, and Beatrice Guerra. daughters, Virginia Lozano (W. Ross McMicken), Norma L. Lozano, and sons, Steve Lozano, Ramiro G. Lozano, Jr. (Debbie), Ruben D. Lozano, Joseph M. Lozano, Larry Lozano, Jay Lozano (Dora), and Michael Lozano (Liz); grandchildren, Linda M. Ticer (Sam), Garrett Lozano, Adam Lozano, Ruben Lozano (Krystal), Richard Lozano (Kimberly), Vanessa Valles (Mario), Robert Lozano, Gena Cervantes (Joe), Jessica, Pamela, Ramiro A. Lozano, and AndrewPaul Lozano McMicken; and numerous cousins and great grandchildren.In 1981 he opened his own towing business, Lozano's Wrecker Service, he was considered a guardian angel, with his faithful dog riding along, to many desperately stranded motorist. He would help people whether they had money or not. He had a knack for being at the right place at the right time for the stranded motorist. It wasn't until the implementation of the Safe Clear Program, the City of Houston initiated in 2005, that Sonny was forced to close his towing business.Sonny's life began as the son of migrant crop pickers who followed the seasonal harvest for work from Weslaco, Texas, to the State of Michigan. His family finally settled in Houston, and his parents opened the Bus Inn Café in the early 1950's, which was located, in downtown Houston.A viewing is to be held on Wednesday, November 16 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Funeraria Del Angel funeral home on 5100 North Fwy, Houston, Texas 77022. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am at the Funeraria Del Angel funeral home, and the internment will be at Hollywood Cemetery immediately following the service. A private family reception will immediately follow the internment in Bender's Landing.Pallbearers will include grandsons, Garrett Lozano, Adam Lozano, Ramiro A.
