Ralph S. Martinez, 82, a resident of Las Vegas passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 in Las Vegas.He was born on Oct. 28, 1934, to Ralph P. Martinez and Florinda Sierra Martinez in Tucumcari.Ralph was a self-employed businessman for 50 years. He served in the United States Marines Corps from July 1953 to July 1956.Ralph was a longtime Parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish went home to be with his Lord. He met the love of his life Irene and they got married in July of 1957. Ralph was a prominent businessman, a lifelong Democrat and ran for mayor. He was Little League coach and volunteer. He always fed the hungry, loved animals and loved to pick up strays. He was a proud United States Marine served in the Korean War before returning home to his family that loved him unconditionally. Ralph was a lifetime Catholic. He was an Immaculate Conception Colt and played baseball, football and basketball. He was very active in the Cursillo movement; he loved horse racing, owned a number of thoroughbreds and as a hobby loved to go walking. Ralph will always be remembered as a very proud husband, father, grandfather and a great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Florinda Martinez; and sisters, Carmen Watson and Sofia Coca.He is survived by his loving wife, Irene L. Martinez of the family home in Las Vegas; daughters, Debra Prado and husband, Gary, of Denver, Shelly Trujillo and husband, Peter, of Las Vegas; sons, Ralph M. Martinez and wife, Lucy of Indianapolis; Jeff D. Martinez of Albuquerque, and Ken P. Martinez and significant other, Madonna, all of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Isabella, P.J., Amber, Ralph J., Desiree, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Kayla, Joshua, Sam, Shaylyn, Kenneth, Jadon, Audrey and Requella; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Sami, P.J. III, Elicia, Marissa, Anissa, Juan Diego, Ralph D., Diona, Anna, Elijah, Noah, Jeremiah, Michael, Noellie, Joslyn and Marissa; sister, Katheryn Kelly of Denver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Coca of Laramie, Wyo., JoAnn Loera and husband, Greg, Georgetta Cummings and husband, Harry, Lawrence Bustos and wife, Peggy, Manuel Bustos, all of Las Vegas, Bernadette Edmondson and husband, Allan, of Albuquerque, Arthur Bustos of Las Vegas, Anna Mae Herrera and husband, Roy, of Santa Fe, Marvin Bustos and wife, Theresa, of Las Vegas; close friend, Frank Berged of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many other friends.Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Friday) at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday also at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Serving as casket bearers will be: P.J. Trujillo, Ralph J. Martinez, Jeffery Martinez, Kenneth Patrick Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Michael Loera, Danny Bustos and Marvin Bustos. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
