Selleck, Ralph G.Ralph G. Selleck, 86, passed away early Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford with his family by his side. Ralph was born on July 13, 1930, son of the late Raymond E. and Edna (Smith) Selleck in Meridale, NY. He graduated from Delaware Academy in Delhi with the Class of 1948. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, completing basic airborne and qualifying as a parachutist and gliderman. Ralph was very proud of accomplishing 23 jumps and two night jumps. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Ralph worked at Contel Phone Company as a switchman for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a life member of the Unadilla Fire Department and an active life member of the Unadilla Rod & Gun Club, a past master of the Unadilla Masonic Lodge 324, and a member of the Sidney Elks Lodge 2175 and the Unadilla American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf and had a hole in one. Ralph is survived by: his son, Frank and Elaine Selleck of Unadilla; daughter, Donna and Chet French of Unadilla; 3 grandchildren: Jessica and Ira Utter of Unadilla; Tara and Brian Douglas of Rochester and Michael French of Unadilla; great-grandchildren, Ira, Jr. and Logan Utter, Tyler and Kamryn French and Sophia Douglas; his twin brother, Ray Selleck of Unadilla; sister, Betsey and Bill Goodrich of Wells Bridge; aunt, Louise Hotaling of Norwich, as well as several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call from 6:00-9:00pm on Friday, February 17, 2017 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 18th at the funeral chapel with Rev. Randy Palada officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Unadilla Fire Department Truck Fund, P.O. Box R Unadilla, NY 13849.
