DELAWARE — Roy Louis Niederlander, 94, of Ostrander and formerly of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 in the loving care of his children.
He was born on May 15, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Roy and Anna (Wells) Niederlander.
Roy was an Eagle Scout and in 1942 joined the Navy. He served with the 75th Construction Battalion (Seabees), which was attached to the 3rd Marine Division and he saw action in many of the major conflicts in the Pacific Theater. When he returned from war, Roy attended Fenn College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
He married Jeannette Porcello in 1945, and they enjoyed spending time fishing and boating on Lake Erie with their children. Roy obtained his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying for many years. He retired after 33 years as a sales representative with the US Steel Corporation.
Roy is survived by his three children, Roy Jr. (Terry), David and Laura (Mike) Bailey. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Sean Bailey, Natalie (Brian) Dilley, Erin Bailey, Jennifer Niederlander, Capt. Roy L. Niederlander IV, and Andrew Niederlander (Lindsey).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette; and a brother, Charles.
The Snyder Rodman Funeral Center of Delaware is assisting the family and service arrangements will be made at a later date.
