SCHWARTZ RETA C. (MARSILI) Age 95, formerly of South Hills, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in Southwestern Veterans Center where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was born on November 2, 1921, to her parents, the late Sem and Theresa Bevilacqua Marsili. Reta was born and raised in the Mt. Washington area of Pittsburgh, later moving to Baldwin in 1960. Mrs. Schwartz served in The WAC, Women's Army Corps, a branch of the United States Army during WWII as a radio technician, servicing airplanes and keeping communications functioning effectively. While enlisted, Reta attained the rank of Sergeant and received the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and WAAC Medal. After her discharge, she modeled briefly and went to art school for dress designing, often making her own clothes and jewelry, especially her earrings. Reta was a unique woman and once you would meet her, you would never forget her. Reta knew everyone and everyone knew Reta. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Surviving her are sons, Richard Schwartz of Harmar, Michael Schwartz of Chicago; grandchildren, Nikki (James) Kazmierczak, Johnathan and Kristin Schwartz; great- grandchildren, Gioia Lucia Kazmierczak; sister, Gerry "Doughy" Lewis of Delaware. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Schwartz; sisters, Ada Wozniak, Vivian Mastandrea and Sylvia White. Friends will be received on Saturday, November 12, 2016, with visitation starting at 2 p.m. until time of service at 7:30 p.m. in THE CHARLES B. JARVIE CHESWICK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1607 Pgh.
