Polly Jennings EggerClinton, MSPolly Jennings Egger, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2017, at St. Catherine's Village in Madison. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Visitation will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, MS on June 13, 2017, at 9:30 and graveside service to follow at 11:00 in the Clinton Cemetery.Polly was born on June 2, 1929, in Jackson, MS. She was the only child of Jessie and Cora Jennings and spent her childhood in Pheba, MS. She moved to Jackson after graduating from high school, and she lived downtown on Capitol Street with her two best friends, Freda Edwards and Sue Williams. She was introduced to a young man at that time named Perry Egger, and they fell in love and were married in 1956. They built a home in Clinton, had two children, and their life on Oakwood Drive began. She was a devoted mother and always home for her children and their friends. She always had homemade goodies and fun things for all the neighborhood children, and she would not hesitate to do anything for a neighbor or friend. She was always concerned about other people more than herself, and she had a kind word to say about everyone. She was very involved in her church Mount Salus Presbyterian, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and loved the Women of the Church group. Her dreams called her to go back to school, and she graduated with her BS degree and her Masters in Elementary Education from Mississippi College. She went on to teach 3rd grade at Northside Elementary and loved all of her many teacher friends. Teaching children was a gift given to her, as she had so much patience and love for them all. After her retirement in 1993, she and her husband (Perry and Polly as they were known) traveled all over the world together. Then their grandchildren arrived on the scene, and their lives became even busier. They loved babysitting and volunteering for school functions and activities. In fact, some graduates of Madison and Ridgeland schools may remember her famous gingerbread houses and banana nut bear muffins. She always said she was going to be a good grandma, and oh how she was! She treasured being called Nana, Grandma Polly, and Great Grandma Polly. As a lot of you know, she loved her flowers! She enjoyed growing, arranging, and sharing them with others right out of her yard. She was also a beautiful seamstress and created everything from doll clothes to special outfits for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for everyone, and even when she tried something new that was not very tasty, she was a good sport about the teasing that followed. She was God's gift to all of us. During her retirement, she was her husband's primary caregiver as he suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She loved and devoted her life to him until the very end. With the loss of her "knight in shining armor," her life was turned upside down. Although she got back involved in her community, that one special someone was always missing. Now she is with him and her Heavenly Father, and her family rejoices in the knowledge that she is holding Perry's hand and singing with the angels. She leaves behind her two children, Perry Egger, Jr. (Susan) of Madison and Libby Egger MacNealy (Kelly) of Madison; grandchildren, Lauren Egger Williamson (Thomas), Justin Egger (Sarah), and Nathan MacNealy; great grandchild, Tate Williamson; and her puppy dog Duchess that she adored. Her family would like to thank the second floor staff at St. Catherine's for the loving and kind care that she received over the past few months. She felt so at peace with Cynthia, Krystal, and Bonnie (to name a few). Also to her loving physician, Dr. Al Steele and his nurse Joann, we could not have made it without you two, and she loved y'all so much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Reform Theological Seminary, 5422 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209.
