Phyllis Smith, 66, of Lyons passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, after her battle with cancer. In her final days she was surrounded by family and friends. Phyllis was born on Jan. 5, 1950, in Wauseon to Keith and Freida Shulters. Phyllis married her true love, Bill, on Aug. 19, 1967, and they spent 49 special years together.
She brought joy to her work, and will be remembered by co-workers from Parker-Hannifin and Gentner Trucking Company. Most recently, she enjoyed giving back to the community through her work at the United Way. Phyllis was thrilled to retire in December of 2015. Her life here was not long enough, but the people who knew her cherished the moments they shared. Phyllis brought joy and happiness to everyone who knew her. Her smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
She was the center of her family, and was always eager to plan holidays. Phyllis treasured holiday traditions like baking Christmas cookies and serving everyone eggnog. Phyllis also loved to cook for her family and to cheer on Ohio State. She made her grandkids, nieces, and nephews feel special with her sweet "to go" bags. Family came first in Phyllis' life, and her love will live with them forever.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Mark Smith (Maria) and Casey (Jessica) Smith; grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica Smith (Linda), Claire, Wyatt Smith; mother, Freida Shulters; sisters, Sharon Smith, Linda (Ron) Reckner, Patricia Blanchard, Julie (Larry) Miller, and Doris Kreighbaum; and many other family and friends, especially, Barb, Diane, Karen, Linda, and Brenda.
She was preceded in death by her father, Keith Shulters; brother, Stephen Shulters; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Louise Smith; and sister-in-law, Cindy Valentine.
A memorial service will be held 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at the Lyons VFW Hall, 122 W. Morenci St.
