Aug 01, 1922 - Dec 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
age 94, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on December 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Shaheen Deeb and Deeb Monseur Meena; his wife, Mary Lee Deeb; and his beloved children, Phyllis Lee Deeb (Lohman/Buise) and G. Phillip Deeb, Jr.Phil was born on August 1, 1922, in Louisville. The son of immigrants from Lebanon, Phil grew up working in his mother's store, Carrie Deeb & Sons, in the Portland neighborhood while attending Male High School. In 1942 he married and enlisted to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a rifleman and a cannoneer throughout Central Europe from November, 1942 until his honorable discharge in November, 1945. He was very proud of his military service, told many stories of life on the battlefield, and was very humbled by having survived when many of his friends were not so fortunate. After the war, Phil returned to his family and ran his mother's store while attending the University of Louisville where he obtained his undergraduate and law degrees. He began a very successful practice of law in 1951 and for 53 years represented individuals and families throughout Kentucky. He taught many young lawyers about the practice of law, including his two children who were his law partners for many years.Phil was president of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys in 1968; a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; a Life Member of the Fellows of the American Bar Association; and was the Louisville Bar Association's Family Law Practitioner of the Year in 2004. Phil was sought out during his career to lecture on family law throughout the country. He was an arbitrator in family law cases before the family court system was established. Phil was also a realtor for more than 50 years and operated a real estate company next door to his law practice. He was a proud Mason and a member of St. John Paul II Parish. Phil loved life. He was humble and loved God and his family. He loved his country. And he loved his "second family" at Magnolia Springs East assisted living community. His family thanks the staff at Magnolia Springs for the love and support they showed to Phil over the last years of his life, and the staff of Baptist Healthcare in LaGrange for the love and dignity they showed this wonderful man over his last weeks. Phil left many people to cherish his memory: His beloved friend and companion, Sandra K. Brooks - his grandchildren are grateful for the joy she brought to his life; his grandchildren, Robert G. Lohman, III (Tami), Sean P. Lohman, Eric R. Lohman, Adam C. Buise, G. Phillip Deeb, III, Lisa Escobedo (Rob), Julie Sharp (Scott), and Gary Harris (Felicia); and his great-grandchildren, Connor, Carter, Kennedy, Kerrigan, Abi, Nathan, Gianna, Sienna, Amber, Dakota, Ace, RaSean, Akayla, Patricia, Sierra and Seth. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church 3521 Goldsmith Lane with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
