Phillip Earl MyersBowling GreenDr. Phillip Earl Myers,73, of Bowling Green passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. The Ottumwa, Iowa native was born on April 26, 1944 to the late Ellsworth and Marjorie McElroy Myers. Dr. Myers received his Undergraduate and Masters degree from the University of Colorado, and his PhD from the University of Iowa.Dr. Myers was a preeminent Civil War Historian, focusing on European Diplomacy. He was cited in several publications, and authored the books, Caution and Cooperation, and Dissolving Tensions. Dr. Myers was a teacher at Ottumwa High School, a professor at Bellevue University (NE), he held positions of professor and graduate dean at Minnesota State University at Mankato (MN), and was the Dean of Graduate Studies at William Patterson University (NJ). Dr. Myers retired from Western Kentucky University as director of the Office of Sponsored Programs and member of NCURA, and was the founder of the WKU Research Foundation. He retired from the National Guard as Lieutenant Colonial. Dr. Myers is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Catherine; two daughters, Sarah and Sonja Myers; one son, Andrew Myers; one brother, David Myers, and his wife Tammy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa….Bella, his loving Aussie dog, and many extended family members. Private memorial service for family will be held at a later date. Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
