Philip Lester EvansAugust 27, 1922 - October 11, 2014Philip Lester Evans, 92, of Nampa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 11, 2014. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. So. with military honors by personnel from the US Navy. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise. The family will greet loved ones and friends at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. So. on Friday evening, Oct. 17, 2014 from 5 - 7 PM. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com.Philip was born on August 27, 1922 in Galena, Missouri, the third of six children to Ed and Alta Evans of Elsey, Missouri. He attended a one-room schoolhouse, Nolan Grade School, for the first eight years then Galena High School, graduating from Crane High School in 1941. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving his country for five years in the Pacific. He was assigned to the Fleet Air Wing II as a combat air crewman and as an aviation ordinance man. He was serving in an Anti-Submarine Development Squadron in Key West, Florida when he was honorably discharged in 1947. After leaving the service, Phil went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for the next 14 years attaining the position of a Traveling Engineer Accountant. He then began working with credit unions for the next six years becoming Managing Director of the Idaho Credit Union League. He then became office manager at Mountain States Paint/Ponderosa Paint Company and was Secretary-Treasurer of the corporation and its subsidiaries at his retirement in 1986. Family and community were central to Phil's life. He married Nadine Trovillion Clark in 1953, and they were together for 61 years. Family vacations were often to visit Phil and Nadine's extended families in Idaho, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. His children and grandchildren were the beneficiaries of generous encouragement, love and support. Phil was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years, where he served on the church board, the Scout Committee, the Building Committee, and as church usher. Phil loved to travel and, in retirement, he and Nadine were active in the First Church Kings Travelers Good Sam Chapter. He also continued to work with certain credit unions as a volunteer for many years, including serving on the board of the Canco Credit Union. In later years he was a keen gardener, sharing produce and expertise with family, friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife Nadine Evans, his son Perry Evans, his stepdaughter Kathryn Clark, daughter-in-law Lisa Evans, granddaughter Courtney Evans, grandson Andrew Evans, great grandson Aiden Tyler Jones, sister Mary Schmuckley, sister Peggy Stockstill as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He also left a community of friends with whom he had shared interests in sports, hunting, gardening and dedication to the work of the church. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers James L. Evans, Paul Evans, and Ernest G. (Jerry) Evans.Phil dedicated his life to the Lord and was ready to go home at the time of his death. His final wishes can be summed up through an Irish quote: May there be no tears or sorrow, instead - may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.In lieu of flowers we would like you to consider a memorial in Phil's name to Amazing Little Hearts, Medical City Children's Hospital, 6805 W.
