Peter J. Monterose 1940 - 2016ONEIDA - Peter J. Monterose, 76, of Oneida and formerly of Stittville, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, surrounded by the love of his family.He was born on January 27, 1940, in Utica, a son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Baulch) Monterose. Peter graduated from Whitesboro High School with the Class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960 and earned his B.S. degree from Utica College, of Syracuse University, in 1972. On January 19, 1963, he was united in marriage with Dorothy A. Shields at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Holland Patent. The couple enjoyed a blessed union of over 49 years until the time of Dorothy's death in October 2012. Prior to retiring in 2013, Peter was a self-employed architect and roofing consultant at McDonald & Monterose in New Hartford. Before establishing his own company, he had been employed by Stetson-Harza and Revere Copper and Brass.Peter was a communicant of St. Leo-St. Ann Catholic Church, in Holland Patent, and served on the Parish Council. He was also a member of several professional organizations, including Roof Consultants Institute (RCI), serving as past Director, Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), where he received a fellowship in 1990, and American Institute of Architects, where he was a very active member. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, trout fishing on many local streams, building model airplanes, camping with his family, and watching the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He looked forward to every opportunity to spend time with his children, and later, his grandchildren.He is survived by his children, Lisa Spooner and her husband, Mark, of Oneida, Yvonne Conte, of Utica, Chad Monterose and his wife, Sonya, of Laconia, NH, and Krin Monterose and her husband, Bob Lumpkins, of Sanbornton, NH; grandchildren, Ryan Spooner, of Laconia, NH, Sean and Kevin Spooner, of Oneida, Kayla Conte, of Wynantskill, and Rachel Conte, of Vernon. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Thomas Shields and his wife, Annis, of Hickory, NC; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Roxy. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Grace (Williams) Monterose; a brother, David; a sister, Theresa; two sons, Thomas and Jason Monterose; and a grandson, Ian Spooner.The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Dr. Roger Breslow and his entire staff for the compassionate care given to Peter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo-St. Ann Catholic Church in Holland Patent. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Whitesboro.
