Feira, PeterPeter Feira, 78, Green Bay, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 following a seven-year struggle with Alzheimer's dementia. Pete was born on Sept. 13, l938, in Iron Mountain, MI to Aila (Maki) and Peter Feira. On Aug. 6, l960, he married the love of his life, Marlene Sparapani at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford, MI.In 1960, Peter graduated from Northern Michigan University with a B.A. in Education. He also earned a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from UW-Milwaukee. Pete began his teaching career in Grand Rapids, MI where he taught Spanish and math, and a year later at Greendale junior and senior high schools. In 1964, he and Marlene moved to Winneconne where he was a teacher, guidance counselor and principal at the middle school. Pete and his family moved to Clintonville in 1970 where he was the Director of Guidance at the high school. It was in 1984 that they moved to Green Bay when Pete was hired as an assistant principal at Southwest and West high schools. After two years, he became the full-time assistant principal at West. In 1994, Pete served as principal at West until his retirement in 1996. Having a generous heart, he coached football, basketball and track throughout the course of his career, and also spent six years volunteering for the Winneconne Volunteer Fire Department.After retirement, Pete and Marlene spent 19 winters in Destin, Florida and were able to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. Continuing their passion for education, they volunteered as reading buddies at Tank school. Pete was a proud grandpa "Bumpa" and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and attended all of their activities.Pete was passionate about his Italian heritage. He and Marlene travelled to Italy five times and were able to connect with relatives on both sides of the family. They helped found and were presidents of Club ItaloAmericano of Greater Green Bay for 11 years and also served on the Board of Directors. Pete was instrumental in initiating the Italian language program at Preble and East High Schools and was also the Green Bay representative to WisItalia. In addition, he helped the city of Green Bay to plan the building of the bocce courts at Colburn Park.Survivors include: Marlene, his wife of 56 years; three children, Becky (Scott) McClure, Wendy (Kary) Kroeber and Nick (Jamie) Feira; five grandchildren, Ryan and Adam McClure, Jessie and Alex Kroeber and Mason Feira; two sisters-in-law, Alice Feira and Susan Sparapani; plus many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Aila and Peter Feira; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Julius and Vilanda Sparapani; a brother, Jack; a sister, Patt Bednarz; and a brother-in-law, Hank Sparapani.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 2771 Oakwood Dr., from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev.
