Persis Farr ThomasApril 5, 1917 - September 18, 2014Persis Farr Thomas,97, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on April 5, 1917 in Arimo, Idaho to Atherton W. and Mary Jensen Farr. She was the third child of four. Persis grew up and was raised in Arimo. She attended elementary through high school there. She then attended and graduated from Utah Agricultural College, now Utah State University. She taught school for one year in Malad. She met her future husband, Eli Con Thomas, at a dance in Downey, Idaho. They were married on June 20, 1939 in the Logan LDS temple. In 1945 they had a son, Jan. In 1954, twin daughters, Jean and Joan, were born and completed their family. In 1964 she and Con acquired another son, Gary Bartholomeusz, who instantly became part of the family.Persis would often substitute teach while her children were growing up. She also worked at Con's Chevron Service Station, which she and her husband Con owned and operated. Persis was active in the LDS church, working in the Primary and Relief Society. She was also an active member of the Arimo Daughters of Utah Pioneers, where she was a charter member in 1954. In 2012 she was honored as the oldest charter member of the Arimo Camp, having been a member for 58 years. She was a past member of the South Bannock County Historical Society Board and committee member of the Arimo Centennial History Committee, which compiled a book, The History of Arimo. She helped compile information on Arimo for The Bannock County Centennial Book.Persis was involved with her children's school activities and was often the "chauffeur". She always had an open door and her children's friends became hers, too. She loved life, worked hard, and loved her yard and garden. She and other widowed friends loved the Utah Jazz and met often to watch the games. Persis, the oldest native-born person in Arimo, was always devoted to her family, friends, church and country.She was preceded in death by her husband (Con), her parents (Atherton and Mary), sister (Doris), brothers (Atherton and Boyd), one grandson (Brandon Eli Thomas) and one granddaughter (Janie Lynn Sayer), and Gary Bartholomeusz.Survivors include: Jan (Karen) Thomas; Jean Thomas; Joan (Brett) Sayer; Edith) 3 Thomas grandchildren, 2 Sayer grandchildren, 4 Bartholomeusz grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Arimo LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Dr. and again on Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Arimo City Cemetery. Donations can be made to a .
